The Government of Uttar Pradesh has decided to implement a policy for the admission of working professionals into Diploma courses. This decision follows a proposal based on suggestions and recommendations from a committee chaired by the Director, Research, Development and Training Institute, Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur. The policy aims to enhance the efficiency of workers in various industries, contribute to the state's goal of a $1 trillion economy, and align with the current infrastructure and industrial investment policy. This new policy supersedes the arrangements outlined in Government Orders dated 31.10.2012 and 25.02.2013.

Course Details:

  • The course name is the Three-year (Part-time) Diploma in Engineering course for Working Professionals.
  • The curriculum applicable is the Lateral Entry curriculum.
  • The duration of the course is 03 years.
  • The courses can be conducted in Government, Aided, and Private Polytechnic institutions.
  • A maximum of 03 courses can be offered per institution.
  • The admission capacity per course is 30 students, as per AICTE norms.
  • A minimum number of students equal to one-third of the approved admission capacity must be admitted for the course to be conducted.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for admission, working professionals must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: Must have passed High School/ITI (two-year course) or equivalent, as required for the regular three-year diploma course.
  • Experience: A minimum of 01 year of industrial experience is required.
  • Employment Status: Must be a worker currently employed in Central Government, State Government, Private Limited, Public Limited, or MSME registered industries.
  • Location: The enterprise where the applicant is employed must be located within a 50 km radius of the institution they are applying to.
  • Full-time Employment: Must have been working full-time in the industry for at least 01 year.
  • AICTE Norms: Must fulfil the standards and educational qualifications prescribed by AICTE.

Merit Calculation:

Admission will be based on merit, calculated out of a maximum of 100 marks. The breakdown is as follows:

  • High School/Equivalent: First Division - 50 marks, Second Division - 40 marks, Third Division - 30 marks.
  • Intermediate/ITI: 10 marks.
  • Experience: More than 01 year but less than 02 years - 10 marks. For each additional year, 05 marks, up to a maximum of 30 marks.

Admission Process:

  • Admission will be provided while ensuring the reservation system is followed.
  • These seats are additional to the approved admission capacity.
  • Classes will be conducted during additional time, such as evening hours and on weekly holidays or other holidays.
  • Compliance with the instructions provided in the AICTE Process Handbook from time to time is mandatory for admission.

  • Government and Aided Polytechnic institutions will run this course on a self-financed basis.
  • The course will be conducted using the currently working faculty and/or guest faculty available at the institutions, as mentioned in the AICTE Approval Process Handbook 2024-25.
